The season of hygge.

The appreciation of simple things.

Every year, when the mornings and evenings start to get chillier, my Danish soul starts to feel brighter and more cheerful. As I surround myself with candles, cooking heartier dishes and preserving the final fruits of summer, I can sense that the season of celebrations—of gathering around the table with loved ones—is upon us.

While many English translations of hygge suggest that this Danish value is mostly about “coziness,” I prefer to define it as the “appreciation of simple things.” Gratitude is at the heart of so many aspects of Danish culture, and the seasons of fall and winter are inherently a time for us to slow down and take stock of what matters most. While that certainly includes cozy moments in spaces that fill us with peace, for me, it is more about nurturing, maternal energy and the many (big and small) ways we can take care of the people we love.

As a chef, I gravitate to nourishing dishes during this time, and you will see that intention reflected as our menu evolves over the coming weeks. From restorative soups and savory bread puddings, to seasonal quiches and other warming foods, I look forward to sharing the recipes that, to me, feel like home.

October at Süti & Co.

A FINAL FALL SUPPER CLUB

On Saturday, October 21st, we’ll host our last dinner on the patio for the year, with an omnivorous menu that celebrates peak fall produce. As it so happens, the City of Boulder will be holding the [placeholder] festival on our street that same weekend, and we’re thrilled to have this lively celebration intersect with our final supper club of the season.

FLAVOR OF THE MONTH

In honor of our first anniversary, we asked all of you to answer the question: “If Süti & Co. was a cookie, what flavor would we be?

We were absolutely blown away by your creative (and delicious!) responses, and are thrilled to feature the winning flavor at our shop this month:

Lemon zest shortbread with dark chocolate ganache and caramel.
